🚕 Taxi Driver
Driving a cab is the least gated work in the city. There is no application, no licence check and no boss to impress. Turn up at the depot, clock on, and start taking fares.
It is also the fastest way to learn the map, which is worth more long term than the money.
Getting started
Head to Downtown Cab Co, marked as Downtown Cab on your map. The depot ped gives you a menu:
- Start Work to clock on.
- Take Out Vehicle to pull a Standard Cab from the depot.
- Drive. Fares get marked on your GPS as they come in.
- Return Vehicle and Stop Work when you are done.
Clocking on temporarily sets your job to taxi. Clocking off gives you your old job back, and so does crashing out or switching character, so nothing you already had is at risk.
Working a fare
- A waiting passenger appears on your GPS. Pull up and press
Eto pick them up. - They get in and the destination is marked. The meter opens as they board.
- Press
Eat the drop-off to let them out and close the fare.
There are sixteen pickup points and twenty-three destinations scattered from Paleto down to the docks, so runs vary from a couple of blocks to most of the map.
What it pays
$1,250 per mile, with no flag-drop fee, paid in cash the moment they step out. Long runs are worth doing, and a cross-map fare is a serious payday.
Roughly one fare in five leaves a tip of $1,000 to $2,000 on top.
Fares are rate-limited to one paid drop-off every 30 seconds, so there is no point trying to game the short runs.
The framework paycheck is almost an afterthought here, but it does exist while you are clocked on:

Getting real passengers
NPC fares are the floor, not the ceiling. Citizens can call or message Taxi from the Services app on their phone, and a driver who actually answers gets paid a lot better than the meter suggests. Working events, doing airport runs and being the cab someone asks for by name is where the job gets interesting.
