🚛 Tow Truck Driver
Towing is the best paid walk-in job in the city, and the only one that asks you to put money down first. You run a flatbed for Hayes Auto Towing, clear breakdowns off the street, and get paid per delivery.
Starting a shift
Go to the Towing HQ yard and talk to the ped. City Hall will mark it on your GPS if you cannot find it.
Start Towing Shift takes a $1,000 deposit from your bank and spawns you a flatbed. You get the deposit back at the end, so treat it as a bond on the truck rather than a fee.
Clocking on temporarily sets your job to tow. Clocking off puts your old job back.
The loop
- Dispatch texts your phone with a stalled vehicle and sets your GPS.
- Drive out. There is usually an owner standing next to it, on the phone or fuming.
- Back the flatbed up to the car and load it.
- Dispatch marks a depot. Drive it in and unload.
- Repeat. A new job is sent the moment you deliver.
Loading properly
The flatbed has to be lined up with the front or rear of the target vehicle, within about ten degrees of parallel. There is a guide marker behind broken-down vehicles to show you where to sit. You also need to be out of your truck, and everyone has to be out of the car you are lifting.
Once it is on the bed, drive like it is on the bed. A hard enough collision knocks the vehicle straight off.
Check the trunk
Broken-down vehicles frequently have something in the boot. Mostly scrap, plastic and glass, sometimes cash, a phone, a lockpick or a first aid kit, and very occasionally a gold chain, a watch or a diamond ring. It costs you nothing to look.
What it pays
$3,200 to $3,800 per delivery, straight into your bank, and it scales the longer you stay out:
| Deliveries this shift | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 6 and up | +5% |
| 11 and up | +10% |
| 16 and up | +15% |
Capped at 50 deliveries per shift, with a minimum of 60 seconds between them. If you hit the cap, end the shift and start a new one.
Citizens call or message Tow Truck from the Services app on their phone.
There is a framework paycheck too, though it is loose change next to the delivery money:
| Grade | Rank | Paycheck |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Driver | $1,000 |
Ending the shift, and your deposit
Bring the flatbed back to HQ and end the shift there.
- Truck back at HQ, undamaged: full $1,000 returned.
- Truck back at HQ, damaged: the repair cost comes out of the deposit, and you get the rest.
- Truck not at HQ: the whole $1,000 is forfeited. There is a "Mark Truck on GPS" option in the menu before you commit, so use it.
Drop off whatever is on your bed before you try to end the shift, it will not let you finish with a car still loaded.
