♻️ Recycling

Recycling is scrap work you do inside the Recycling Center. You carry scrap across the warehouse floor, get paid in recyclable material, and then either sell that or trade it up into the crafting materials other jobs and recipes need.

There is no in-game tutorial, so this page is the tutorial.

Getting there

The Recycling Center is marked on your map, off Popular Street in Cypress Flats. City Hall will drop a waypoint on it if you ask about recycling.

  1. Third Eye the door and choose Enter Warehouse. It takes you inside.
  2. Inside, Third Eye the laptop and choose Toggle Recycling Work to go on duty.
  3. Third Eye the same laptop again when you want to stop.

The work itself

Once you are on duty, one piece of scrap on the floor is outlined in white.

  1. Third Eye the outlined scrap and choose Grab Scrap. Your character picks it up and carries it.
  2. Carry it to the outlined crate and choose Drop Off.
  3. You are paid in recyclable material, and a new piece of scrap lights up.

Repeat as long as you like. Nothing is gated, nothing is timed, and there is no quota.

Selling and trading

Both are on the peds inside. Selling turns materials straight into cash. Trading converts recyclable material into crafting materials, and doing it in bulk pays a bonus.

You can trade 1, 10, 100 or 1000 at a time, and the bigger the batch the better the rate — a thousand at once comes out roughly half again as much as trading them one by one, and spreads across more kinds of material. It is worth hoarding until you can do it in bulk.

What comes out is copper, plastic, metal scrap, steel, glass, iron, rubber and aluminium: the crafting materials other jobs and recipes ask for.

Materials sell for about ten dollars apiece and bottles and cans for half that, so selling is steady rather than lucrative — the money is in volume, or in trading up and letting someone else pay for the crafting materials. There is a Sell Everything option if you just want the lot gone.

Dumpsters and scrap piles

You do not have to be on duty for either of these, and they are all over the city.

  • Dumpsters hold bottles, cans and the common materials, and turn up other things often enough to be worth the look: bandages, food, lockpicks, rope, the occasional weapon or phone. Each one can only be searched once.
  • Junk comes out of them too — a broken phone, a fake AJ hat, a dead graphics card — and each piece is worth more than a handful of materials, so never leave it behind.
  • Scrap piles around the city give steel, copper, aluminium and glass, and are also a single search each.
