🏗️ Construction Work
Construction is the best paying activity job in the city and the one with the most actual work in it. You take a contract, get sent to a site, and get paid for the percentage of it you finish. No job title needed, anyone can walk on.
Starting a job
Head for the Construction Job blip. City Hall will mark it if you cannot find it.
At the yard, interact to open the work menu and start a contract. You can go alone or invite people first, and the whole party has to be at the yard when the host starts. There is a cloakroom at the yard if you want the hi-vis and hard hat on, which you should.
There is a 10 minute cooldown between contracts.
What is on site
You get assigned one of six sites. Each one has its own mix, and everything is marked on your GPS.
Sewer pipes. A trench with pipe sockets in it. Install them one at a time, about twelve seconds each, worth around 4% apiece. This is the single biggest earner on most sites.
Concrete. Once the pipes are in, the trench gets poured. Someone has to collect the concrete mixer from a separate pickup point and drive it to the site, which is the one job that genuinely needs a second person if you want to be quick about it. The pour is worth about 8%.
Walls. Frames with fifteen block slots each. Grab a block from the pile nearby, carry it over, mount it, repeat. About nine seconds a block and roughly 1.5% each, so a full frame is worth a lot but takes a while.
Welding. Marked spots around the site, about fifteen seconds each, 2% to 4% depending on the site.
Site-specific work. Some sites have their own jobs: fitting a sink, mounting a fusebox, installing a switch, building a ramp for the mixer.
There is more work on a site than you need. You do not have to hit 100%, and you do not have to do the tasks you find boring. Finish whenever you like.
What it pays
$300 for every 1% of the contract you complete, paid straight into your bank when you end the job. Complete a whole site and you are looking at around $30,000. Two of the six sites pay one and a half times that.
Working as a team does not increase the pot. The reward is the same total however many of you there are, and the host splits it by percentage in the party menu. A crew finishes faster and each person takes home less. Solo is slower and keeps the lot.
The company vehicle
A works truck spawns for you at the yard when you start, and the mixer spawns at its own pickup point.
End the job without the truck and you pay a $1,000 penalty. You still get paid for your progress, but the fine comes out of it, so drive it back to the finish marker before you clock off.
Doing it efficiently
- Pipes first. They are the highest percentage for the time spent, and the concrete pour is gated behind finishing them.
- If you are in a pair, send one person straight for the mixer while the other starts the trench.
- Walls are the slowest percentage on the board. Skip them unless you are going for a full site.
- Take the truck with you rather than leaving it at the yard, so ending the job is not a walk back.
